Task

The Chapel End Early Years Centre had various flat roofs that were coming to the end of their serviceable life and only provided limited insulation to the school. Access to the various roofs required careful planning as the works were to be undertaken with the school in occupation.

Solution

The client prepared a specification that required the existing roofs to be installed with an overlay system using a High Performance Felt System with a PIR boards to falls scheme to assist with the drainage of water from the roof. An Esha High Performance Elastomeric Felt Roofing System and boards to falls scheme were installed to these roofs.

The installation of an additional 100mm of PIR insulation and the replacement of a number of old rooflights allowed the roof to meet the current ‘U’ value under Approved Document Part L.

The works were organised with the co-operation of the school, starting in the Easter holidays and completing in the summer half term. The managing of Health and Safety on site was key to the successful delivery of this project. Works were organised for early mornings and weekends to avoid disruption to the school and it occupants, ensuring a safe environment was maintained at all times.

Conclusion

The excess water that was ponding on the roof now drains away efficiently, and the thermal efficiency of the roof has now been improved.

On completion the roof was provided with a 20 Year Manufacturer’s Warranty provided by Radmat Building products Ltd.
